The Hardworking Donkey and the Clever Fox
The Hardworking Donkey and the Clever Fox
Once upon a time, in a small village near a forest, there lived a donkey named Dodo. He was the hardest worker on the farm. From sunrise to sunset, he carried heavy loads, plowed the fields, and even pulled carts full of vegetables to the market.
But no matter how hard he worked, the farmer always gave him just a little hay to eat. Dodo often sighed, "Oh, if only I could be as clever as the fox! He never works, yet he always finds food."
One day, while resting under a big tree, Dodo saw a fox named Felix strolling by, licking his lips after eating a delicious meal.
"Felix, my friend!" Dodo called out. "How do you always find food without working?"
Felix chuckled and said, "Oh, my dear Dodo, you must learn to be smart! Hard work is good, but a little cleverness can make life easier."
Dodo’s ears perked up. "Teach me, Felix! I want to be clever too!"
Felix thought for a moment and said, "Alright, follow me to the river."
When they reached the river, Felix pointed to a large, round pumpkin floating in the water. "This, my friend, is your ticket to a lazy life!"
Dodo tilted his head. "A pumpkin? How will this help?"
Felix grinned. "Tonight, the farmer will load sacks of wheat on your back. When he isn’t looking, replace one sack with this pumpkin. It’s just as round and heavy! He won’t notice!"
Dodo’s eyes widened. "Brilliant! But… what if he finds out?"
Felix waved his paw. "By the time he does, you’ll be relaxing under a tree, chewing on sweet grass!"
That night, Dodo did exactly as Felix had said. He replaced one heavy sack of wheat with the pumpkin and carried the load to the market.
The farmer, too busy counting his coins, didn’t notice anything unusual. Dodo chuckled to himself. "I’m finally clever!"
But when the wheat buyer opened the sack, he gasped, "WHAT?! A PUMPKIN?!"
The farmer turned red with anger. "DODOOOO!!!"
Poor Dodo ran as fast as his hooves could carry him, straight to the forest. He found Felix laughing under a tree.
"Felix! Your trick got me in trouble!"
Felix smirked. "Ah, my friend, you see, cleverness is good… but honesty is even better!"
From that day on, Dodo decided to mix hard work with a little smartness—but in a good way. And guess what? The farmer, realizing Dodo was special, started giving him extra hay and juicy carrots for his efforts.
And so, Dodo learned that while cleverness is useful, honesty and hard work always win in the end!
Moral of the story: Hard work pays off, but honesty makes life even sweeter!
The End. 😊
